Awakening // Book One

Beneath the rolling hills of in Western North Carolina lies an ancient evil, shackled for a millennium, and growing impatient for freedom while the world forges on. People have long forgotten the rule of magic and the guardians who contain the destruction. They have forgotten that the nightmares from their dreams hide in dark corners, very real and very much willing to do their master's dark bidding. 

Beth Harper-Newman can't wait to spend her 25th birthday on a weekend hike on the Appalachian Trail with her two favorite guys: Tom (her husband) and Grady (their best friend). Two estranged friends are waiting when they arrive, and day one seems to go downhill the further into the mountains they go. After the sun sets, the woods where Beth used to find peace turn sinister with talks of death cultists, witches, and interdimensional beings not native to this planet. Truths worm their way to the surface, lifting the veil covering Beth's life until she's stuck deciding what to believe or who to trust in an unfamiliar part of the forest. And, just when Beth thinks her weekend couldn't get worse, she learns her role in this life-shattering hike.

Distracted by loss, Beth and Grady forget that evil never sleeps. 

Their misstep could cost more than Mayes Hill, TN, but everything they hold dear. 

Beth’s grief is suffocating…and so is her guilt, yearning for another man so soon after becoming a widow. Riddled with regrets, she finds a distraction in the form of her new neighbor and personal savior, Fennick. He’s handsome and suave...and surrounded by dark secrets. Beth teeters on the edge of curiosity and caution while juggling the insecurities eating at her confidence. How can she learn magic from the man she avoids and defend the world when she can’t even mend a broken heart? 

Grady can’t seem to catch a break, either. Caught on the same boat but with a different breeze, he spends his days in the Grove, giving Beth the space she wanted. When he remembers Curtis Putnam—the last of Ja’azul’s cult members—was left unchecked, Grady races home. When he arrives, he finds a bloody Beth and more trouble than he can deal with, especially when the boys in blue show up.
